The Chinese government injected funds into Nanjing University to carry out research on South China Sea issues. With the funds, the university has established the Collaborative Innovation Center of South China Sea Studies. Zhu Feng, once a professor at Peking University’s School of International Studies, was tapped for the center’s executive director position and Wu Shicun, head of the National Institute for South China Sea Studies, was appointed the center’s deputy director.
