President Benigno Aquino III will be pushing for the early conclusion of the drafting of the set of rules meant to avoid conflict in the South China Sea at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Myanmar.
“I am sure the President will be bringing up this agenda item. I think he will be asking his fellow ASEAN leaders to work for the early conclusion of the [code of conduct],” Assistant Secretary Charles Jose, spokesperson of the Department of Foreign Affairs, said during a press conference at the Palace on Wednesday.
The ASEAN is a regional organization composed of the Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam.
