US, Japan, Australia take aim at China, Russia on G20 sidelines

The United States, Japan and Australia all took aim at China and Russia at the Group of Twenty (G20) summit in Brisbane, Australia, says Duowei News, a US-based Chinese political news outlet.

The final day of the G20 summit on Nov. 16 had been slated for a discussion about economic growth and developing employment opportunities, though the majority of the focus remained on pressing issues such as the Ukraine crisis, the Ebola virus outbreak and America’s role in the Asia-Pacific.

On Sunday morning, US president Barack Obama, Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe and Australian prime minister Tony Abbott also conducted a rare trilateral meeting on the sidelines of the summit which appeared to have been aimed at Russian and Chinese issues.

In a joint statement, the trio condemned Russia for destabilizing Ukraine and called for those responsible for shooting down Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 in July — suspected to have been pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine — to be brought to justice.
